Echement Retires from Rescue Mission
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — The Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley today announced the retirement of its executive director, James G. Echement, and the appointment of the mission’s deputy director, John Muckridge III, as the next CEO/president.
Echement started his service to the Rescue Mission in 2003, beginning as the Learning Center instructor. He was quickly promoted to director of development and in March 2012 was named executive director. He has led a staff of 45, overseen fundraising and was paramount in instituting a client service policy to care for the 130 guests housed at the shelter.
Muckridge’s appointment is effective immediately.
“John has been groomed by Jim Echement for the role of CEO for the past three years so the transition will be very smooth,” said Marisa Volpini, board president, in a statement. “Based on John’s commitment to serving Jesus and knowledge of the ministry, we are confident that he is the man called to this role.”
Volpini thanked Echement and his family for “the love and dedication they have given to the Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley over the past 14 years.”
The Rescue Mission was established in 1893 to provide Christ-centered services to disadvantaged men, women and children. The mission’s building, 962 Martin Luther King Blvd., offers free meals three times daily and overnight shelter.
