Help Network Honors Beck for Reducing Opioid Abuse
Help Network of Northeast Ohio recently presented M. Frank Beck, a dental surgeon, with its Mental Health and Recovery Advocacy Award in recognition of his efforts to reduce substance abuse and opioid overdoses in the Mahoning Valley. Beck, pictured (right) with Nickola Ceglia from the Help Network board, was recognized for spearheading efforts by Mercy Health-Youngstown to address the opioid epidemic. He serves as lead physician in Mercy Health’s initiative to prevent and treat substance abuse. “I view this as a team award and recognition of Mercy Health, all of which would not have been possible without Mercy Health Foundation Mahoning Valley and its outstanding team,” Beck says. Programs and processes implemented as a result of his work include evidenced-based pain management and alternatives to opioid protocols that reduced the amount of opioids Mercy Health physicians prescribe by 43%.
