3 Valley Businesses Earn HIRE Vets Medallions
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Three Mahoning Valley businesses have been recognized as part of the Medallion Program established last year by the Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans, or HIRE Vets, Act.
In an announcement from U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, Kennedy Trucking in Salem, United Returning Citizens Inc. of Youngstown and US Military Maintenance Northeast Ohio of Austintown have been honored for hiring veterans.
“We are eternally grateful for the service and sacrifice of our veterans, and we are forever indebted to them for protecting the freedoms we enjoy as Americans,” the senator said in a release. “I applaud these Ohio businesses for their commitment and support for our nation’s heroes and hope they will set an example for other employers of the importance of prioritizing efforts to hire our veterans.”
In total, 16 businesses were recognized statewide and 119 across the country. A full list of the businesses is available here.
Officially created in 2017, the HIRE Vets Medallion Program evaluates businesses based on veteran hiring and retention, availability of veteran-specific resources, leadership programming for veterans, dedicated human resources and compensation and tuition assistance programs for veterans.
This year served as a demonstration year for the program and will be fully implemented in 2019.
