Mahoning Valley Auto Sales Rise 5.6% in June
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Sales of new and used cars in the Mahoning Valley rose last month, figures from the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio show.
In June, dealerships in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties sold 6,532 vehicles, a 5.6% increase over June 2014. Sales of new cars were up 4.6% last month, totaling 2,810.
The best-selling new vehicle was the Chevrolet Equinox with 276 sold, followed by the Chevy Silverado 1500 pickup, the Lordstown-built Chevy Cruze, the Chevy Malibu and the Ford Escape. All models except the Cruze – 136 were sold last month, 104 fewer than last year – increased sales over June 2014.
The Equinox was far and away the No. 1 new car in the Valley as the second-place Silverado sold only 143. Last month, 99 Malibus and 86 Escapes were sold in the three counties.
Only three of the top 10 cars and trucks had their sales decrease. In addition to the Cruze, were sales of the Ford Fusion – 51 sold, 12 fewer than a year ago – and the Ford F-150 – 43 sold, 41 fewer than June 2014.
The five most popular used vehicles in the area were the Ford F-150, 121 sold; the Chevy Malibu, 99; Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 98; the Ford Escape, 82; and the Chevy Cruze, 82 – 32 more than June 2014.
The top dealership in the Valley was Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, with 311 cars, trucks and vans sold, a 41.4% increase over June 2014.
Rounding out the top five dealerships are Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, with 286 sold, 29 more than last year; Stadium GM, Salem, with 237, an increase of 22; Taylor Kia, Boardman, with 226, 59 fewer than June a year ago; and Sweeney Buick GMC, Boardman, with 205 sold, three more.
Of the top 15 dealerships in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, only Taylor Kia reported a decrease in sales.
