Nine Permits Issued in Ohio Utica/Point Pleasant Shale
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Natural Resources awarded nine horizontal well drilling permits to three energy companies during the week ended July 13, the agency reports.
Ascent Resources Utica LLC received four permits to drill wells in Noble County and Equinor Onshore Properties was awarded three permits for wells in Monroe County, while Eclipse Resources LP received two permits for wells in Guernsey County.
All of the wells target the southern tier of the Utica/Point Pleasant shale play in eastern Ohio, which has proved to be the most lucrative region for oil and gas production in the state.
As of July 13, ODNR has issued 3,126 permits across the Utica/Point Pleasant – 2,647 of those wells are drilled of which 2,226 are in production.
There were 18 oil and gas rigs in operation in the Utica/Point Pleasant as of last week, ODNR reported.
ODNR reported there were no permits issued in the northern sector of the shale play, which includes Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties. The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection reported no new permits issued in neighboring Lawrence and Mercer counties in western Pennsylvania.
