Valley Auto Sales Fall 12.5% in November

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Auto sales in the tri-county area fell 12.5% in November as most dealerships posted year-over-year drops in sales, according to data from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association.

In total, dealerships in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties reported 4,042 vehicles sold last month, down from 4,618 in November 2018. New-car sales were down 16% to 2,161, while used-car sales slipped to 1,838, a 6.5% decline.

“Although new vehicle sales were off in November, we are pleasantly surprised that the year over year sales are down by a very small amount, just over one percent,” said the association’s president, Louis A. Vitantonio, in a statement. “2018 was a rather strong year and 2019 is coming to a close on a similar note.”

Locally, Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, led new-car sales in the three counties with 144 delivered in November, down 27 from a year ago. Following were Boardman Subaru, Boardman, with 113, up 11; Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, 105, down 53; Sweeney Buick GMC, Boardman, 105, down nine; and Stadium GM, Salem, 103, down 31.

Greenwood topped the used-car sales chart with 82 sold, down from 101 in November 2018.

Across the dealership association’s 22-county membership area, combined sales were down 8.5%, with 6,419 sold. Four area dealerships – Sweeney Chevy and Sweeney Buick GMC, along with Greenwood Chevy and Boardman Subaru – were in the top 10, ranking sixth, eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively.
