UPDATED: Events Canceled, Postponed by Coronavirus

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – In response to the coronavirus outbreak across the country, area organizations are canceling or rescheduling events to mitigate its spread.

Check the list below for area events that have affected by the spread of COVID-19. A similar list for entertainment events is available at AfterHoursYoungstown.com.

The list will be updated as announcements come in.

April 1

Upton House has canceled the final session of its Wednesday programs.

April 4

Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County Plant the Seed to Read book festival at Fellows Riverside Gardens is canceled.

April 7 

United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley annual meeting has been rescheduled for May 13 at The Lake Club. 

April 23

Upton House’s annual meeting has been postponed.

Past Events

March 12

Lawrence County Regional Chamber of Commerce has canceled its annual dinner. A rescheduled date will be announced later.

March 13

Hollywood Gaming Mahoning Valley Race Course closed until further notice.

Youngstown Area Goodwill Industries’ annual Gems Jewelry Sale & Charity Auction has been rescheduled for June 5. All previously purchased tickets will be accepted.

The Youngstown Area Jewish Federation has canceled or postponed all programs that include large gatherings and limited visitations at Heritage Manor and Levy Gardens. The Jewish Community Center building and the Early Learning Center will remain open. For details on specific classes and programs, call 330 746 3251.

Eastern Gateway Community College has suspended in-person classes through March 30. Online classes will continue as scheduled March 16. A full list of how programs will be affected is available here.

Mercy Health has suspended visitation at its sites, effective 8 p.m. March 13. Exemptions will be considered based on specific needs and circumstances, such as end-of-life care, births and pediatric care.

March 14

Junior Achievement of Mahoning Valley’s Youth Market Day at the Eastwood Mall has been rescheduled to 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 16.

Youngstown Area Grocers annual Beer and Wine Tasting has been rescheduled to May 29.

The Warren-Trumbull Public Library has canceled all events between March 14 and April 4. All regular programming and special events at the six library branches, as well as use of the meeting rooms, are cancelled. The branches will remain open for scheduled hours.

United Way of Youngstown and Mahoning County has canceled its Voluntary Income Tax Assistance programs at Youngstown State University’s Williamson College of Business Administration and OCCHA, 3660 Shirley Road, as well as all VITA programs at area schools and libraries. Clients affected by the cancellations will be notified.

March 16

The Butler Institute of American Art will close temporarily until March 31.

Boardman Civic Association’s annual Community Awards Dinner has been postponed, with a rescheduled date to be announced.

Youngstown SCORE has postponed all upcoming workshops. Mentorship meetings will be available remotely via phone, email and video. For more information, email [email protected].

All branches of the Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County will be closed until April 3. The Boardman, East and Newport branches will be open as polling places on Election Day.

OhioMeansJobs One-Stop sites in Mahoning and Columbiana counties will be closed through April 7. Staff will report and will be available via phone and email.

March 17

Tartan Companies’ Controlling Workers’ Compensation Cost class has been canceled. It will be rescheduled to a later date.

March 18

Salem Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Business After Hours has been canceled.

Untied Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley has canceled its Women’s Wednesday Night Out at Barry Dyngles in Austintown. The event will be rescheduled. Those who registered will be automatically placed on the attendance list for the rescheduled event.

March 19

Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber annual meeting has been postponed. No rescheduled date has been announced.

Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County’s meeting on the Main Library renovation and construction plans will still be held at 11 a.m. and will be live streamed online.

March 20

Homebuilders and Remodelers Association of the Valley’s economic forecast breakfast has been postponed. A rescheduled date was not announced.

March 25

Youngstown Mayor Jamael Tito Brown’s State of the City address has been postponed. A rescheduled date will be announced.

March 26

Eastgate Regional Council of Governments annual meeting has been canceled. 

Mahoning County Democratic Party’s Hall of Fame Dinner has been postponed. An new date will be announced soon.
