Coronavirus Case Update: April 30, 2020

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Health, as well as county health districts in the Mahoning Valley, reported 18,027 total cases of COVID-19. The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 45,763 total cases.

All 88 Ohio counties have at least one confirmed case of COVID-19, the disease spread by the coronavirus.

Mahoning County Public Health reports 828 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mahoning County, of which there are 242 hospitalizations and 80 deaths. One death reported Wednesday was probable and has since been determined to be negative and removed from the county, the health department reports. Mahoning County is third in the state for deaths and seventh in the state for the number of confirmed cases.

The ODH reported 308 cases in Trumbull County with 118 hospitalizations and 31 deaths. In Columbiana County, the ODH reports 253 positive cases, 98 hospitalizations and 23 deaths.

Of the total cases reported by ODH, 17,285 are confirmed. It reported 742 probable cases based on the CDC’s recently expanded case definition. There have been 3,533 hospitalizations and 1,035 patients in the intensive care unit. There have been 975 total deaths, which breaks down to 898 confirmed deaths and another 77 “probable” deaths under the CDC expanded diagnosis definition. The median age of those testing positive is 51.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reports 45,763 total cases, with 2,704 hospitalizations with 556 COVID-19 patients on ventilators. Since March 6, there have been 2,292 confirmed deaths in Pennsylvania.

Of all tests conducted in Pennsylvania, 175,602 were reported negative.

According to the department’s hospital preparedness dashboard, 1,415 of the commonwealth’s ventilators are being used by COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients.

Mercer County has 65 total cases and one death with 715 negative tests, while Lawrence County has 65 total cases, six deaths and 724 negatives tests.

Mercer County has 42 ventilators available, as well as 20 adult ICU beds, 235 medical/surgical beds, zero pediatric ICU beds and 40 airborne isolation room beds available. Lawrence County has 24 ventilators available, along with three adult ICU beds, zero pediatric ICU beds, 50 medical/surgical beds and two airborne isolation room beds.
