VIENNA TOWNSHIP, Ohio – The Western Reserve Port Authority today approved authorized the execution of a term sheet and indemnity agreement for issuing revenue bonds to EDM Management Inc., Boardman, and issued a sales tax exemption certificate.
EDM intends to develop Briarfield Place, a 50,000-square-foot, 58-bed skilled nursing facility at 8392 Market St, Boardman. The port authority assisted EDM in developing the Inn at Poland Way, Poland, which opened in 2016.
The company expects to begin construction within the next month or so on the center, said Anthony Trevena, the port authority’s economic development director. It plans to spend $12.7 million to develop the center, including $9.5 million in hard construction costs, Trevena said.
“We’ve been working on this for quite some time,” he said.
Work on the new location should begin within the next 30 days, reports Diane Reese, president of EDM.
“The investment is approximately $12 million and we’ll have at capacity about 70 employees,” she said.
When finished, the skilled nursing center will consist of 58 private units in direct proximity to the Boardman Mercy campus, Reese said. The new building will have a “state-of-the art” design dedicated to serving the elderly population in this part of Mahoning County, she added.
Strollo Architects Inc., Youngstown, is the lead architect on the project, while A.P. O’Horo Inc. is the general contractor.
EDM, based in Boardman, operates several nursing homes and assisted living centers including The Inn at Christine Valley in Youngstown, The Inn at Ironwood in Canfield, The Inn at Walker Mill in Boardman, The Inn at Poland Way in Poland, The Inn at Glenellen and The Villas at Glenellen in North Lima, Briarfield Manor in Austintown, and Briarfield at Ashley Circle in Austintown. The company employs more than 600 people.
