Region’s September Jobless Rates Show Little Change
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – September unemployment rates in the region changed little from the month before, data from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services shows.
This morning’s monthly release of substate data puts Mahoning County’s unemployment rate at 5.1% in September, down a tenth of a percentage point from 5.2% in August. Trumbull County’s unemployment rate last month was unchanged from August’s 5.4%
Columbiana County’s rate was 5.1% in September, up from 4.9% in August.
Unemployment rates in all three counties last month were down from a year earlier. In September 2014, Trumbull County’s rate was 6.1% and both Mahoning and Columbiana counties posted rates of 5.7% for the month.
Youngstown’s unemployment rate declined by a fifth of a percentage point over the month, to 6.6% in September from 6.8% the month before. Warren’s unemployment rate ticked up slightly, to 6.3% last month from 6.2% in August.
The metropolitan statistical area that covers Mahoning and Trumbull counties in Ohio and Mercer County, Pa., reported a 5.2% unemployment rate in September, down from 5.3% in August and from 5.8% in September 2014.
The unemployment rate in the Ohio-only portion of the metro area was also 5.2% last month, unchanged from August and down from 5.9% the year before.
