Coronavirus Case Update: Sept. 9, 2020
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Ohio Department of Health reports 973 new cases of COVID-19 since Tuesday to bring the cumulative number of cases in the state to 132,965, as well as 4,324 total deaths – 26 in the last 24 hours. The Pennsylvania Department of Health reports 141,290 cases and 7,805 deaths.
In Mahoning County, the ODH reports nine more cases since Tuesday to bring the total to 2,915 cases, with 461 hospitalizations and 272 deaths. The Mahoning County Public Health department reports 2,913 total cases.
The ODH reports 1,785 cases in Trumbull County – five since Tuesday – with 331 hospitalizations and 126 deaths. In Columbiana County, the ODH reports two new cases since yesterday to bring the total to 1,878 positive cases, along with 214 hospitalizations and 69 deaths.
Mahoning and Trumbull counties are rated Yellow in the state’s color-coded Public Health Advisory System. Columbiana County is rated Orange.
Of the total cases reported by ODH, 126,046 are confirmed. ODH reported 6,919 probable cases based on the CDC’s expanded case definition. There have been 14,083 hospitalizations and 3,054 intensive care admissions, as well as 4,324 total deaths, which breaks down to 4,034 confirmed deaths and another 290 probable deaths under the CDC expanded diagnosis definition. The 21-day reported case average is 1,052.
The state reports a presumed 111,201 Ohioans have recovered after testing positive. Presumed recovered is defined as cases with a symptom onset date of greater than 21 days prior who are not deceased, according to the ODH website.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 141,290 total cases, with 492 people hospitalized, down from 514 on Tuesday. Sixty are on ventilators. Since March 6, there have been 7,805 deaths in Pennsylvania – up 14 since Tuesday. Of the cases reported, 137,241 are confirmed.
Of all tests conducted in Pennsylvania, 1,625,640 were reported negative. With positive cases, 82% have recovered If a case has not been reported as a death and it is more than 30 days past the date of their first positive test or onset of symptoms, then the person is considered recovered, according to the health department’s website.
Mercer County has 612 total cases – up from 607 on Tuesday – and 13 deaths with 10,393 negative tests, while Lawrence County has 479 total cases – nine new cases since Tuesday – and 21 deaths, as well as 6,939 negative tests.
