ACME General Corp. Establishes Tech Development Center at YBI
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A business-consulting firm that serves the defense industry plans to open a new technology development center within the Youngstown Business Incubator, executives said Wednesday.
ACME General Corp., based in New York City, will help develop software and tools to support next-generation national security and defense technologies, the YBI said.
“Having ACME General located on our campus is a true milestone for our organization,” says Barb Ewing, CEO of the YBI. “ACME is an outstanding player in the defense industry. The fact that they want to be part of the community that we’re building in Youngstown underscores the importance of the ecosystem that we’re creating with our partners at America Makes, Advanced Manufacturing and Applied Research Innovation Institute, Youngstown State University, and in El Paso, Texas.”
ACME General has offices in New York City, Austin, Texas, and Morgantown, W. Va. The Youngstown location positions the company for future growth in this region, the YBI said. The company is composed of commercial analysts, entrepreneurs, engineers, and former military officials whose role it is to support new research and development initiatives mostly in the defense industry.
The project was made possible through the support of U.S. Rep. Tim Ryan’s office, the YBI said.
“Our goal is to invest in communities with a demonstrated commitment to supporting innovative companies like ours,” David Bonfili, ACME General’s CEO, said in a statement. “The talent available in Youngstown and the surrounding area is truly a game-changer for us. We are deeply grateful to Congressman Ryan for his support.”
Ryan, D-13, vice chair of the House Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, says he helped steer the project to the YBI. “One of the most important jobs of an elected official is to bring opportunity and business back to their community,” Ryan says. “I am thrilled ACME and their cutting-edge work will be located in the heart of downtown Youngstown – creating jobs and opportunity for workers right here in our community.”
