Airless Tires to be Released as Early as 2024

DETROIT – The Uptis Prototype of airless wheels offers a variety of benefits in comparison to normal tires.

Not only is this technology geared towards eliminating flat tires and blowouts, it also has the potential to reduce raw materials usage and waste. The technology is being worked on in partnership with Michelin.

The technology is focused on GM’s goals of zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion. The goal is for the tires to extend the life of the tires by eliminating failure due to puncturing or other damage while also reducing the amount of spare and replacement tires necessary.

Additionally, Michelin said the air-free technology eliminates the need for pressure checks, making the tires “ideal for self-driving vehicles and passenger car fleets.”
