Akron Children’s Adds More Services in Cleveland Area
AKRON, Ohio — Akron Children’s will expand its footprint in the greater Cleveland area with a new outpatient surgery center, a pediatric urgent care center and expanded access to in-demand specialists. These include pediatric cardiologists, neurologists, gastroenterologists, orthopedic surgeons, and ear, nose and throat specialists.
“We think we can address an unmet need by making our pediatric specialists and surgeons more accessible,” said Chris Gessner, president and CEO of Akron Children’s. “Parents want the highest quality pediatric care, and they want to be able to schedule appointments quickly and easily through an app or online. Our team is 100% kid-focused and it is our job to help them grow up safe and healthy.”
The Pediatric Outpatient Surgery Center in Beachwood will open July 23, providing pediatric GI, orthopedic, and ENT surgeries, with other specialty surgeries to be added by early 2025. The center will replicate the outpatient surgery centers Akron Children’s offers in Akron and Boardman, with the same surgeons, anesthesiologists and surgical services staff caring for the patients in Beachwood, according to Daniel Goldstein, MD, who will serve as the medical director for the surgical center in Beachwood.
Additionally, on July 15, Akron Children’s is adding a pediatric urgent care center at the Akron Children’s Health Center on East Park Drive in Cleveland for non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses.
In addition to Akron Children’s pediatric cardiology, which has been offered in Beachwood for more than two decades, the hospital is adding additional pediatric specialty care with orthopedics and ENT both arriving this summer on July 22 and Aug. 5.
The new surgical center, as well as the remodeled Akron Children’s Health Center and Akron Children’s Pediatrics in Mayfield Heights, will celebrate the new openings with open houses from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 13.
