Akron Children’s to Increase Minimum Wage to $15
AKRON, Ohio – Akron Children’s Hospital will increase its minimum wage for all employees to $15 per hour effective Nov. 24, the health-care system announced Thursday.
The increase will also apply to all future hires, both at its hospitals in Akron and Boardman, as well as primary and specialty care offices. Employees who are currently making “$15 or slightly more” will receive pay adjustments as well.
“Our reason for doing this is, quite simply, it is the right thing to do,” said Grace Wakulchik, president and CEO, in a statement. “While we regularly analyze salaries to ensure our compensation is competitive in our region, we recognize our employees see the work they do here as much more than a job. This is an important step in acknowledging how much we appreciate all they do to support the work of Akron Children’s Hospital.”
The pay increase will affect about a quarter of Akron Children’s workforce, including food and environmental services, medical assistants, dispatchers, home health aides and patient service representatives.
