Akron Children’s Welcomes Pediatric Cardiologist Watson
AKRON, Ohio – Timotheus Watson, M.D., has joined Akron Children’s as a pediatric cardiologist. Watson will be seeing patients at Akron Children’s Mahoning Valley campus in Boardman, as well as at its health centers in Warren, Beachwood and North Canton.
Watson comes to Akron Children’s from Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, where he served as a pediatric cardiologist and chief medical information officer for the heart center. He was also an assistant professor of pediatrics at the Emory University School of Medicine.
After earning his medical degree from Case Western Reserve School of Medicine, Watson completed his cardiology residency at the Cleveland Clinic and his fellowship at the Medical University of South Carolina with a year of additional training in advanced cardiac imaging.
Akron Children’s Heart Center uses the latest, most advanced technologies to diagnose and treat all types of pediatric heart disease – from the mild to the extremely complex.
One of the hallmarks of the Heart Center is its hybrid care, blending surgical and catheterization approaches to treat heart defects. The center’s pediatric heart surgeons work with interventional cardiologists to repair certain types of heart defects in babies, who otherwise would have to wait until they’re big enough to undergo open heart surgery. Less invasive procedures promote faster recoveries and may reduce the need for multiple surgeries.
The scope of care begins with the center’s fetal cardiology program, which can identify congenital heart defects in unborn babies, and continues into adulthood with patients who were treated for congenital heart defects as babies and toddlers and still require the ongoing care from CHD specialists.
