Alta Receives $20K Grant for Camp Challenge
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Youngstown Foundation has awarded $20,000 to Alta Care Group’s Camp Challenge, supporting improvements to the Social Center.
Among the upgrades are renovations to the restrooms, a new stove and new tables and chairs, said Alta Care CEO Joseph Shorokey in a release.
“Our goal is not only to improve conditions for the kids who use Camp Challenge throughout the year, but also to make the facility more widely available for rental to community groups, workshops and other events,” he continued. “We’re very grateful to the Youngstown Foundation for helping us work toward this goal.”
The revenue from the rentals will be used to support Alta’s non-revenue programs that support children, teens and their families.
Camp Challenge, 939 Wilkinson Ave. in Youngstown, hosts the Alta Head Start program for preschoolers, as well as Alta Behavioral Healthcare’s summer program. Alta has invested more than $500,000 in the building’s renovation.
“The renovations made possible by this Youngstown Foundation grant will allow us to share this beautiful facility more widely with the public,” Shorokey said. “At the same time, more will be able to see how much we do here to benefit children in need.”
