American College of Physicians Awards Manzi Highest Honor
PITTSBURGH – Allegheny Health Network this week announced that the American College of Physicians has elected Susan Manzi, MD, MPH, MACP, to Mastership; the highest honor the ACP can bestow upon its members.
Manzi is regarded as a pioneer in the field of rheumatology. She has played a critical role in advancing quality, innovation and best practices that have significantly improved the treatment of patients with autoimmune illnesses. She cares for patients from around the world who travel to the AHN Autoimmunity Institute seeking her expertise in the diagnosis and management of hard-to-treat autoimmune conditions.
Manzi and her colleagues hold several patents for methods of identifying and monitoring autoimmune diseases, particularly lupus. Most notably, using a specialized technology known as CB-CAPs or ‘Cell-Bound Complement Activation Products,’ Manzi and team designed a first-of-its-kind blood test to help clinicians diagnose lupus with greater ease and accuracy.
She serves as the chair of the AHN Medicine Institute, director of the AHN Autoimmunity Institute’s Lupus Center of Excellence and medical director for the Lupus Foundation of America’s board of directors. She has served on advisory boards for the FDA and more than 20 pharmaceutical and biotech companies and has chaired or served on numerous NIH study sections and data safety monitoring boards.
Manzi was inducted at the ACP’s Convocation Ceremony held last month in Boston.
