Anderson-DuBose Named Top Ohio Workplace by PD

LORDSTOWN, Ohio – The Anderson-DuBose Co., a food distribution company based here, has been ranked as the top workplace among medium-sized businesses in northeastern Ohio, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s annual rankings.

Founded in 1991, Anderson-DuBose employs 225 at its Lordstown site, as well as 80 in Rochester, N.Y. The company distributes food and supplies to 454 McDonald’s and 118 Chipotle restaurants in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

“Everything that we do and the decisions that we make, we think about our people first,” human resources manager Linsey Gray told The Plain Dealer. “It’s associates first and their safety and their well-being and then it’s our customers and our business.”

Among the company efforts highlighted by the newspaper in its report on Anderson-DuBose are its annual picnic – which has been held as an outing to a baseball game, truck rodeo and family fun day at the Lordstown headquarters over the years – the provision of Sirius satellite radio in all its trucks and paid birthdays off.

Executives at the company all follow an open-door policy, Gray continued, and regularly holds roundtables and surveys to gather feedback from workers.

“People feel included, and they feel like they have an opinion and they come to you with suggestions,” she said.

And to thank veterans, both employed at the company and those that may see its trucks on the road, Anderson-DuBose recently launched a truck adorned with the seals of the United States armed forces reading “Thank you for your service.” A second truck with the design will hit the road later this year.

The 11th annual Top Workplaces ranking also included Akron Children’s Hospital at No. 18 on the large companies ranking.

“While this award celebrates Akron Children’s role as a Top Workplace in 2019, our leadership team also wants to take this opportunity to acknowledge the dedication, flexibility and resiliency our employees have shown in caring for children and families throughout this unique and challenging time,” said Rhona Larimore, the hospital’s chief human resources officer, in a statement.

The annual survey is administered by Energage LLC and gathers anonymous feedback in workplace culture such as alignment, connection and execution.
