Annual Report Highlights YNDC’s Efforts in 2023
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Avery is enjoying her new home she purchased with the assistance of the Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corporation.
Avery is one of the success stories of YNDC’s HUD-Approved Housing Counseling Program. And her story is among the highlights of YNDC’s Annual Report 2023, which was released Thursday.
“They made me discipline myself in my finances so I could save money,” Avery, who is identified by only her first name, is quoted in the report. “I cut back on things I didn’t need, and savings became my goal. It helped me clean up my credit, and it wasn’t overbearing. I set a goal, started small, and worked my way to bigger payments. By the time I got to the bigger payments, I was used to making payments, so it developed into a habit for me.”
According to the report, YNDC in 2023 served 275 housing counseling clients, created 11 homeowners, completed 175 emergency home repairs, replaced 241 roofs, rehabilitated nine vacant housing units and removed 2,591 cubic yards of debris from neighborhoods in the city.
Among the emergency home repairs were 51 plumbing repairs, 31 hot water tank replacements, 24 snaked drains, 25 toilet repairs and replacements, 51 furnace repairs and replacements and 30 porch repairs and replacements.
YNDC’s Glenwood Fresh Market distributed $253,478 in fresh fruits and vegetables. There were 18,136 unique visits, and 469 members and 240 unique households were served.
Other highlights:
- 84 vacant houses were boarded.
- 3.2 linear miles of overgrown sidewalks were cleaned up.
- 750 illegally dumped tires were removed.
- 403 vacant properties were cleaned up and improved.
