Anthem to Acquire Beacon Health Options
INDIANAPOLIS – Health-insurance company Anthem, Inc. has entered an agreement to acquire Beacon Health Options, the largest independent behavioral-health organization in the country.
Beacon, based in Boston, currently serves more than 36 million people across the United States, including 3 million in comprehensive risk-based behavioral programs.
“We’re focused on providing solutions that address the needs of the whole person,” said Anthem’s president and CEO, Gail K. Boudreaux, in a statement. “Beacon fits well with our strategy to better manage the needs of populations with chronic and complex conditions.”
Upon completion of the acquisition, Beacon will be combined with Anthem’s behavioral health business and will work as an integrated team within Anthem’s Diversified Business Group.
Both businesses will be able to enhance whole person care and improve overall health outcomes with a stronger portfolio of specialized products, more clinical expertise, improved analytics and health data, and broader provider networks and relationships.
“We are excited to partner with Anthem to serve the behavioral health needs of more than 60 million Americans,” Beacon Health Options President and CEO, Russell C. Petrella, said. “Our member-focused, integrated clinical care model helps individuals and their families cope with their physical and behavioral health challenges.”
The acquisition is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2019.
