Applications Open for Latest Round of Ohio Tech Intern Program

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Are you an Ohio company looking to hire a fall intern? The state will help pay their wages.

The Ohio Department of Development’s Diversity & Inclusion Technology Internship Program will accept applications for companies to participate through Sept. 1.

Any business with a technology need can participate. Interns can help create mobile apps, build websites, implement new software and enhance cybersecurity, among other possible responsibilities.

“Inclusivity drives creativity, and our internship program is a platform for companies to harness that creativity for their benefit,” said Lydia Mihalik, director of the Department of Development. “Through this program, companies not only gain access to diverse skill sets, but by expanding and improving their technology, they’re helping us to further position the state as the heart of innovation.”

Through 12 rounds of the program, 860 interns have been hired. Of those, 81% have been African American, Asian, Hispanic, other ethnicities and white females.

The Ohio Third Frontier, a program in the Ohio Department of Development, will reimburse companies for two-thirds of an intern’s wages up to $7,500. Companies can hire up to four interns per round and be reimbursed up to $30,000.

Internships for this round can occur between Nov. 1, 2023, and April 30, 2024. The student application period will open Sept. 5. Interested students and companies can join the mailing list to be notified.
