Arcs and Sparks on Display at FirstEnergy’s Safety Demonstration

SALEM, Ohio – Ohio Edison representatives demonstrated several dangerous scenarios using a live 7,200-kV single phase distribution system to show the power of electricity, how an electrical system operates, how to recognize unsafe and dangerous conditions and, most importantly, how to stay safe around power lines and electrical equipment.

Several real-life hazardous conditions were demonstrated, including ladder contact, animal or tree on a wire, downed wire on a vehicle, human contact with downed lines or conductive objects.

“Electricity as we say in our presentation doesn’t seem to care who you are,” says Matthew Kasinecz, senior process coach for FirstEnergy. “You can’t see it. You can’t smell it. You can’t really identify it until it’s too late. No matter what happens, give us a call. We’ll make sure everything is safe.”
