Area Auto Dealers Report Rise in New Car Sales
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – New car sales in the Mahoning Valley rose slightly in October to 2,483, according to data from the Automobile Dealers Association of Eastern Ohio, or 15 more than the same month last year.
Meanwhile, used car sales in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties dropped 7.7% to 3,595.
The Chevrolet Silverado took over the top spot as the area’s top-selling new model with 164 leaving showrooms. The Chevy Equinox, which had led monthly sales since January, was No. 2 with 154, followed by the Chevrolet Cruze Limited with 121, the Ford F-150 with 87 and the Ford Escape with 84.
The Cruze Limited is the name given to the new cars sold with the model’s original body style. Sixteen of the redesigned 2016 Cruzes were sold last month in the Valley.
American automakers held the top 11 spots on the association’s list of top-selling models, with the Honda Accord ranking 12th with 39 sold in October.
Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, led area dealerships in the sale of new vehicles with 153 sold last month, 13 more than a year ago. The rest of the top five includes Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, with 146; Sweeney Buick GMC, Boardman, 129; Taylor Kia, Boardman, 121; and Stadium GM Superstore, Salem, 109.
Greenwood also led sales for used models with 100 sold in October.
