Area Home Sales Post Gains in March

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Sales of houses in the tri-county region last month were up 10% from a year earlier, and are up 5% year-to-date.

Statistics assembled by the Youngstown/Columbiana Association of Realtors and the Warren Area Board of Realtors show 480 houses were sold in Columbiana, Mahoning and Trumbull counties last month, compared with the 436 sold a year earlier. Sales for the three counties also were above the 345 units sold in February. 

Through March, 1,147 houses were sold in the area, up from the 1,092 sold during the comparable period in 2018. 

In Mahoning County, 236 houses were sold in March, up from the 214 sold a year earlier. In Trumbull County, sales for the month improved to 169, ahead of the 157 in March 2018. In February, 147 houses were sold in Mahoning County and 133 in Trumbull County. 

The 75 houses sold in Columbiana in March represented a 15.4% gain from the 65 sold a year earlier as well as in February 2019.  

Year-to-date through last month, sales in Mahoning County are on pace with last year, with 535 units sold during the first three months of 2019, just four more than the same period in 2018. In Trumbull County, 420 units were sold through the end of March, 15 more than last year’s period.

In Columbiana County, 192 houses were sold during the first three months of this year, up from the 156 sold during the same period last year.  

Average selling prices in March also showed gains from a year earlier. 

In Mahoning County, the average sale price in March was $135,413, up 13.8% from the $118,987 a year earlier and up even more substantially from the $98,340 average in February. 

Trumbull County’s average sale prince in March was $102,583, up 2.6% from $99,985 a year earlier though down from $112,498 in February. 

Columbiana County’s average March sale price was $113,849, up 19.3% from $95,434 a year earlier but down form $121,681 in February.
