Army Corps Seeks Feedback on Lake Management

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — A public meeting to collect feedback on proposed updates to the water control requirement manuals for Berlin Lake, Michael J. Kirwan Dam and Reservoir, and Mosquito Creek Lake within the Mahoning River Basin will take place at 7 p.m., May 3, at Stambaugh Auditorium.

The 90-minute meeting is being presented by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Pittsburgh District and will include a segment for public comment.

The meeting can also be accessed virtually HERE.

Water control manuals are approved by Congress and outline the operational requirements for corps-owned flood-control reservoirs. They set forth requirements such as release levels and drought contingencies.

The corps is considering updates to the manuals of the three lakes. Drafts of the engineering report, environmental assessment, and finding of no significant impact for the revised manuals are available electronically HERE.

The comment period is open and will close on May 19. All submissions received before May 19 will be considered. Comments can be submitted by email to lrp.plan.enviro@usace.army.mil or by mail to Planning and Environmental Branch, William S. Moorhead Federal Building, 1000 Liberty Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
