Art for Smarts Sale Set for Sept. 18
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Art for Smarts sale is set for 5 to 8:30 p.m. Sept. 18 in the Ohio One Building.
Proceeds support future Smarts (Students Motivated by the Arts) programming, says Becky Keck, executive director.
Each work of art will be offered for between $30 and $100 and items from the Smarts store are also available.
The sale is free and open to the public.
The nonprofit organization started at Youngstown State University in 1997 and is making the transition to a stand-alone community art school. Smarts offers classes in visual arts, music, dance, theater and creative writing for K-12 students from throughout the region.
Smarts is supported by the community and is dependent upon grants and charitable contributions for its operations and programming, Keck says It has completed the first 12 months of its business plan and a new space in a historic downtown building in downtown Youngstown has been identified.
Foundations, individuals, businesses and organizations have raised more than $146,000 in cash and more than $70,000 in donated goods and services since January 2014, Keck says.
