WARREN – MyPath Mahoning Valley last year organized a massive hiring event and earned national recognition for its work.
Approximately 375 job seekers attended the Youngstown Works hiring event in October at Stambaugh Auditorium, surpassing expectations.
“We were pleased to collaborate with local partner agencies to connect such a large group of job seekers with local employers looking for people,” says Gerri Jenkins, executive director at MyPath.
The next Youngstown Works hiring event will be April 24 at Stambaugh Auditorium. The Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber, city of Youngstown, Youngstown State University, Eastern Gateway Community College and Kent State Trumbull Campus are among the collaborating partners.
“Our Youngstown Works consortium has been effective in bringing together many organizations that focus on different segments of workforce development,” Jenkins says. “One of our goals is to attract support from government sponsors beyond the city of Youngstown so we can assist more job seekers.”
The agency last year won a $3,500 grant in the Big Ideas Bright Cities Challenge, a nationwide competition of organizations focused on careers and skills development. MyPath was one of 14 finalists out of hundreds of entries.
The grant will cover MyPath’s participation in the Skills Friendly Cities Network, a group of nonprofits that share best practices and connect with leaders in youth skills development.
Established in 2001, MyPath provides resources and tools that help high school and middle school students explore post-secondary education, career and technical training, job opportunities and military service.
