YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Pittsburgh-based Steel City Wash LLC, which operates as Mr. Magic Car Wash, has acquired Coates Car Care.
With the acquisition of the six Coates locations in Niles, Austintown, Cortland, Howland, Boardman and Hermitage, Pa., Mr. Magic Car Wash will have 23 locations across western Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio.
The sale of three locations were recorded June 7. According to the Trumbull County Auditor’s office, the Howland location at 1210 Niles-Cortland Road was sold for $875,000. The Cortland location at 2239 Elm Road was sold for $1,000,000. And the Niles location at 2178 Bianco Ave. was sold for $475,000.
Two more sales were recorded June 10 by the Mahoning County Auditor’s office. The Coates car wash at 5243 Mahoning Ave. was sold to Steel City Wash for $705,000. And the newest Coates site, 6410 South Ave. in Boardman, was sold for $2,902,000.
Information about the sale of the Coates site in Hermitage, Pa., was not immediately available.

The Coates family operated the business for more than six decades. James Coates Sr. started it in 1959 with its first location in Niles. The business later expanded with locations in Austintown, Howland, Hermitage and Cortland. In August 2023, Coates Car Care opened its sixth location, a $6 million full-service car wash in Boardman.
