YOUNGSTOWN – As part of its commitment to diversity and inclusion, 88.5 WYSU-FM added programming that presents viewpoints not commonly heard on local media. The radio station also adopted a diversity, equity and inclusion statement; and implemented the Community Voices initiative, which aims to add diversity to its lineup. WYSU is operated by Youngstown State University.
This year, WYSU will launch the Policies & Politics: Views from the Industrial Heartland podcast. Hosted by YSU professors Tim Francisco and Paul Sracic, each episode will be a discussion of timely political topics and public policy issues. Guests will add expertise and opinion. The podcast will be available under the Programs tab at wysu.org, and wherever podcasts can be heard.
Station coordinator Ed Goist says programming will be focused on attracting a more diverse and younger audience while retaining existing listeners.
Established in 1969, WYSU reaches over 30,000 listeners per week in a coverage area that includes eight counties in Ohio and three in Pennsylvania. The station has a staff of eight.
