Artists Group’s Show, Art Sale to Raise Money to Buy Building

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – A local artists group will present a variety show this weekend as part of its effort to raise money to purchase a building to house studios, classrooms and a gallery.

Loop Youngstown will stage the show and an art raffle from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6, at West Side Bowl, 2617 Mahoning Ave.

Tickets are $10 in advance at WestsideBowl.com and $15 at the door.

Local actor Calvin Brown will emcee the performances by musicians, poets, actors and storytellers.

The evening will begin with the Youngstown Area Community Concert Band playing music from its summer season show, “The Music of Nations.”

Other performers will include:

  • Poets Lena Carson, Erin Stubbs, Jimmy Sutman and Liz Hicks.
  • Storytellers Rick Schilling, Bill Mullane and Lowell Satre.
  • Jimmy Sutman and Purple Cat friends as “Carnac the Magnificent.”
  • Actors from Hopewell Theatre and The Youngstown Playhouse performing scenes and show tunes. 
  • ASL interpreter Meagan Albani and musician Anthony Gill teaching the song “Rainbow Connection” in American sign language.

The event will conclude with a performance by TaeShawn Madison, a Youngstown-based recording artist and vocalist. For information, click HERE.

An art raffle at the event will feature works by Robyn Maas, Tony Nicholas, Tony Armeni, Brian Hill, Venise Abell, Marisa LaGuardia, Jack Wendle and others.

The winning tickets for Loop’s online art raffle will also be drawn at the event. Tickets for this  special raffle are two for $5 and available HERE. Three artworks are being raffled off:

  • “Encoding” by Dragana Crnjak, which is inspired by traditional Slavic crochet patterns and landscapes.
  • “Symbols of Divine Power” by Bill Mullane.
  • “Imagine Peace,” a framed limited edition Yoko Ono poster donated by Mullane.

“The Loop project is an important endeavor both for moving the arts community forward and advancing the role that the arts play in economic development for our region,” said Mullane, winner of a 2023 Governor’s Award for the Arts. “I am committed to supporting this project any way that I can.”

Loop will have more fundraisers in the future as it continues to raise money to purchase a building in Struthers that it has set its sights on.
