Ascend Youngstown to Continue Under New Ownership

BOARDMAN, Ohio – Ascend Youngstown will remain open with new ownership.

The gym on Western Reserve Road, which features indoor climbing walls, a yoga studio, fitness areas and youth programming, previously announced that it would close. But buyers stepped in and will take over ownership and operations, effective April 1. The facility will remain open through the transition.

Josh and Courtney Boyle, who own Environmental Collaborative of Ohio, an eco adventure and consulting company, and Cale Mitchell and Dan Froelich, are buying the company.

“The four of us got together because we thought it was important to preserve it,” Josh Boyle said.

His company has been providing after-school and summer programming for youths at the gym for the past three years.

The new tentative name is Climb Youngstown, although that may change after the sale is finalized. Josh Boyle said he doesn’t expect changes under the new ownership, at least for the first few months. He estimated the gym has between 100 and 150 members.

Ascend maintains operations in Pittsburgh and Erie, Pa.
