AST2 to Debut Mobile Additive Manufacturing Unit
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Applied Systems and Technology Transfer, or AST2, a portfolio company of the Youngstown Business Incubator, will debut one of its additive manufacturing mobile units tomorrow morning.
The AST2 Fab-Lab is a 34-foot mobile unit that can be transported with a pickup truck. The company has delivered three labs to the U.S. Department of Defense and recently designed and fabricated its fourth mobile unit.
AST2’s mobile lab will be on display Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the company’s warehouse at 1301 Logan Ave.
The labs are equipped with computer-controlled 3-D printers, laser cutters, mills and routers. Users can work with a variety of materials, including plastic, metal, or wood, while the labs serve as a teaching tool for young people, to train employees or to design and manufacture components.
Each lab can be custom configured to the user’s specifications, the company said.
