Austintown Students Sing in Support of GM Lordstown

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Students at Austintown Middle School have performed a song in support of General Motors Lordstown Complex.

The song, “We Love GM!,” was sung by the Austintown Middle School eighth grade choir under the direction of Megan Keown. Assistant principal Marc Pupino wrote the lyrics to the tune of “Under the Sea,” from the 1989 Disney movie, “The Little Mermaid.”

A video of the choir’s performance can be watched here.

This isn’t the first time local schools have been involved in the campaign to save the Lordstown plant. In December, some 5,000 letters written by area students – from kindergartners to high school seniors – were delivered to the UAW Local 1112 union hall as part of the Drive It Home campaign.

On Monday afternoon, U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown will be at the union hall for a roundtable discussion with GM Lordstown workers.

“The focus will be on pushing GM to do the right thing by workers and bring a new product to the Lordstown plant,” the Drive It Home campaign said in a Facebook post. “Brown is meeting with workers on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and will echo Dr. King’s message that all labor has dignity and all workers deserve to be treated with dignity and respect.”
