Average White Band Coming to Robins Theatre
WARREN, Ohio – Average White Band will perform at Robins Theatre on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 8 p.m. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
Tickets for the concert range from $35 to $55 (plus applicable fees) and will go on sale Friday, May 12, at 10 a.m. at robinstheatre.com and at the theater box office, 160 E. Market St. A presale for members of Friends of the Robins Theatre will start at 10 a.m. Thursday.
The jazz-funk R&B band with Scottish roots introduced itself in 1974 with its “Pick Up the Pieces” album. It would go on to win multiple gold and platinum albums and three Grammy nominations.
Ensuing singles include “Cut the Cake,” “Queen Of My Soul,” “Walk On By,” “Atlantic Avenue” and “Let’s Go Round Again.”
Decades later, AWB’s contribution to hip-hop and modern R&B was sealed by the frequent use of its music samples from artists such as Erik B & Rakim, TLC, Ice Cube, Tribe Called Quest, Leena Conquest, P. Diddy, Mark Ronson and Rick Ross.
AWB’s most recent release is 2018’s “Inside Out,” a collection of all new studio tracks and versions of AWB favorites recorded live with a five-piece horn section.
Today, the band consists of original members Alan Gorrie (vocals, bass, guitar) and Onnie McIntyre (guitar), with Freddy V., Cliff Lyons, Rob Aries, Rocky Bryan and Brent Carter.
