Big Dog RC Named ‘Business of the Year’ By Mercer Chamber

STONEBORO, Pa. – The highlight of 2018 at Big Dog RC, a hobby shop with an indoor/outdoor model car raceway, was being named business of the year by the Mercer Area Chamber of Commerce. The company is owned by John and Robin Raskob of Sandy Lake, Pa.

The business brings in more than 200 drivers a week for racing events held year-round, John Raskob says. “Some visit the business for our large hobby shop, which features cars, trucks, planes, boats and drones,” he says.

Others visit for racing events on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Spectators are admitted free and most events are broadcast on Facebook Live. There are also open track days on Thursday and Friday for drivers to run their models.

The company added an outdoor rock-racing course in 2018, which includes high-speed areas and rough, rocky terrain, Raskob says. Work continues on a huge rock-crawling area.

Indoors, Big Dog RC expanded its dirt off-road track to about 4,200 square feet with over 400 tons of clay. A new dirt oval was added, opening racing to three days a week.

New for 2019 is an All Access Track Pass, which provides drivers 24/7 access to the tracks, Raskob says.
