Video Blog Details Progress on Warren Mural Project
WARREN, Ohio – DeShawn Scott’s D5 Group is presenting a photo/video blog of artist Amy Novelli’s installation of the Scott Street Mural in the city’s Garden District.
Novelli, a Warren native, was chosen through a competitive process managed by Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership. The process, which featured public voting and a jury, featured 22 artists.
“This is truly a transformative project for the Garden District and the community at large, with artists and residents together breathing new life into a formerly empty space. We will revitalize our community by reclaiming derelict vacant space one step at a time,” TNP said in a news release.
Novelli’s design is based on actual houses in the Scott Street area as well as children playing. The colorful design also includes quotes about neighborhood improvement, flowers, gardens, colorful homes, children and butterflies.
Novelli, a 1982 graduate of Warren G. Harding high School, earned her bachelor of fine arts degree from the Columbus College of Art & Design in Columbus, with a major in fine art and painting. She received her master of fine arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, with an emphasis on public art and community affiliation.
