Boardman Bus Garage Auction Closes at $305K

BOARDMAN, Ohio — After a month of online bidding, the auction for the former bus garage for Boardman Local Schools closed at 2 p.m. yesterday with a high bid of $305,000 plus a 10% buyer’s premium.

The next step is for American Real Estate Specialists to present the bid to the district’s board of education to accept or reject the bid, said auctioneer and real estate broker, Paul Basinger. The next school board meeting is scheduled for May 20 at 6:30 p.m., according to the district’s website.

The former bus garage at 201 McClurg Road is next to the Davis Family YMCA and Mercy Health – Youngstown’s St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital. Bidding on the 2.5-acre property opened at $285,000 on April 1. The 108,000-square-foot property includes 70,000 square feet of asphalt parking and 700 feet of chain-link fence.

Built in 1971, the former bus garage building is 7,200 square feet with five 12-foot by 12-foot doors and contains a bus lift. While the building is a good one, Basinger said the new owner will likely raze it to build new, he said.

“This property has good potential for development of offices; medical most likely,” he said.

Basinger Auction Service conducted a separate auction on metal shop equipment the district no longer needed, including welders, hand tools, office and classroom equipment, as well as other surplus items. Bidding opened April 9 and went “great guns,” reaching $40,000 by 5:30 p.m. yesterday, Basinger said.

“That’s higher than we originally anticipated,” he said. “So we’re pleasantly surprised.”

Total bids reached $60,005 with 265 bidders participating until bidding officially closed at 8 p.m., Basinger said. After-auction pick up is scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at door No. 5 at Boardman High School, 7777 Glenwood Ave.
