Boardman Fire Station to Offer Tour, Overview of EMS Initiative

BOARDMAN, Ohio – Boardman residents are invited to attend an open house Tuesday at the main fire station, located at 7440 Market St., across from Southern Park Mall.

Doors will open at 6 p.m., and the presentation will begin at 6:15 p.m.

Fire Chief Mark Pitzer and Boardman Township Administrator Jason Loree will present an overview of the Lifesaving EMS Initiative, which was created to address a shortage of emergency medical services.

An exploratory committee was created in 2018 to seek solutions for the township as it faced what some statewide officials call the “perfect storm” – EMTs quitting in record numbers; staff turnover near 40%; and poor response times.

“The average age of township residents is increasing, and EMS and 911 calls are substantially higher,” Pitzer said. “Private EMS services are closing or leaving the area. Both public and private services are struggling to cover more area with less ambulances and crews.”

The open house will include an overview of the situation, as well as options the township and residents will have to consider. After the presentation, a tour of the fire station will be offered.
