Boardman Gets Greener with Advanced Turf Solutions
BOARDMAN, Ohio — A former manufacturing plant here is now the new home for Advanced Turf Solutions, which celebrated its grand opening Tuesday.
ATS Youngstown Investments LLC, based in Fishers, Ind., held a ribbon cutting for its move to 8100 Southern Blvd., the former Conison Tool and Die Inc. building. The business has been operating out of the location for nearly two months, said Aaron Bucci, director of turf and ornamental sales.
The purchase was completed in September 2021 for $850,000, according to the Mahoning County Auditor website.
Advanced Turf Solutions previously operated on Meridian Road in Youngstown, where it was for seven years before outgrowing the location, Bucci said. The company has been doing business in the greater Youngstown area for about 12 years.
The move will accommodate growth, Bucci said, with the new location situated in a better spot logistically to reach Cleveland and Pittsburgh, two growth areas.
The 4.5 acre-property includes a building that, when renovated, should measure about 10,000 square-feet after some work. It sits on 4.5 acres, Bucci said.
“Moving out this way, we can serve more areas than before,” said Dan Mauch, facility manager. “We’re open to any way we can help the green industry.”
First and foremost, Advanced Turf Solutions provides consultations, Bucci and Mauch said.
“We’re consultants first and then distributors” of products, Bucci said.
The company, dealing with live turf, is broken down into three divisions: sports, golf and lawn care landscape. It distributes fertilizer, plant protection products, grass seed, ice melt and addresses erosion control.
Employees work with schools, municipalities, golf courses and the lawn care industry, Bucci said.
“There’s a lot of science behind what we do.”
When called to a site, the company will examine and identify problems with grass or plants and then draft a plan of action for the customer, Bucci said. Three employees staff the new Boardman location with a handful of sales representatives out in the field.
Attending the ribbon-cutting event Tuesday was Jim Felger of Columbiana, who works in the lawn-care industry and has done business with the company.
He’s excited the business has moved to Southern Boulevard.
“This will make life a lot easier” for customers in the southern part of the Mahoning Valley and into Pennsylvania, Felger said.
The Boardman location is the 24th for Advanced Turf Solutions, which is an employee-owned company, Mauch said.
Advanced Turf Solutions operates five locations in Ohio, including the new Boardman space. There are also locations in Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Virginia.
