Boardman Manufacturing Plant Sold for $1.2M

BOARDMAN, Ohio – SMS Group Inc., a global equipment manufacturer based in Pittsburgh, has acquired the R.L. Best Co. building at 723 Bev Road, according to records from the Mahoning County Auditor.

Auditor’s data show that SMS paid $1.2 million for the building and accompanying 2.7 acres in a sale recorded Jan. 29. The sellers are listed as Ted and Mark Best, records show.

In 2020, R.L. Best and SMS established a partnership to expand service to the domestic aluminum industry, according to previous trade journal reports. 

SMS’s website lists the R.L. Best location as an SMS plant, along with another location in East Palestine.

R.L. Best, established in 1976, specializes in manufacturing, reconditioning and providing service to extrusion presses, and extrusion-handling systems used in the aluminum industry.  The company also installs and provides engineering services for aluminum extrusion equipment.

SMS boasts more than 100 locations worldwide that include multiple operations in North America, Africa, South America, Europe and Asia.
