Boardman Meijer Grand Opening on May 13

BOARDMAN, Ohio — The Boardman Meijer opens at 7 a.m., May 13, the Grand Rapids, Mich. retailer announced Thursday, while a Seven Hills store opens the same day.

The 155,000-square foot supercenters are the latest of seven stores the retailer has opened in northeastern Ohio since 2020, featuring groceries, garden center, electronics, pharmacy and other departments. Meijer operates 256 stores throughout Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky.

Each new Meijer follows mandated state requirements and guidelines for social distancing, implements safety protocols and requests customers wear masks when entering the building, according to a release.

More details regarding Boardman’s opening day will be revealed closer to that date, said Meijer external communications manager Joe Hirschmugl in an email.

In June 2019, Meijer bought the nearly 39 acres of land located on U.S. Route 224 and Lockwood Boulevard for $4 million. The Boardman store was slated to open in summer of 2021 at the earliest, according to an email response for comment at the time from Frank Guglielmi, Meijer senior director of corporate communications.

In 2016, the chain purchased land on Mahoning Avenue in Austintown and had an agreement in 2018 with the Cafaro Co. for the former Super Kmart building at the Eastwood Mall Complex in Niles.

As of this posting, Meijer’s Hirschmugl had no further information on the construction of the Austintown and Niles stores.
