Boardman Police to Update 1972 Murder of 12-Year-Old Brad Bellino

BOARDMAN, Ohio – The Boardman Police Department announced Monday that it will provide an update Tuesday into the investigation of the 1972 murder of 12-year-old Bradley Bellino.

Bellino’s body was found April 4, 1972, in a dumpster behind the Boardman Plaza. The killing shocked the community. Through the years, the case was reopened and potential suspects were identified but no arrests were made.

In 2018, DNA evidence was tested by a Parabon Nanolabs, based in Virginia. The Boardman Township Board of Trustees subsequently allocated funds for Parabon “to conduct a snapshot genetic genealogy analysis of DNA evidence,” according to The Boardman News.

The cold case has been the subject of numerous press accounts. On Jan. 12, 2022, an in-depth report by free-lance writer Caroline Berardino was published on PorchLightOnline.org. CLICK HERE to read her report.

The news conference will be held at 1 p.m. in the trustees conference room in the township building. No additional information will be released until that time, said Police Chief Todd Werth, in announcing the press event.
