Brockway Honored by Ohio Library Council

Pamela Brockway, early learning team leader at the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County, has received the Diana Vescelius Emerging Leader Award from the Ohio Library Council. In announcing the award, the council said, “Brockway was greatly expanded library programming. She is passionate about early literacy and kindergarten readiness and her enthusiasm has had a ripple effect on public libraries around Ohio.” Among her accomplishments was seeking out the expertise of Saroj Ghoting, a nationally recognized early childhood literacy consultant, to devise a plan for creating new activities and resources for young children, their parents and caregivers. This collaboration led to a number of new programs including the library’s popular Kindergarten Readiness Stations, which are now available at every PLYMC branch. The stations change each month and always align with Ohio’s Early Learning Standards.
