Brown Elected First VP of AMVETS
Jan Brown, a resident of Boardman, was elected first vice commander of AMVETS at the organization’s 74th annual convention in Orlando, Fla. Reg Riley of Pittsburgh was elected commander. AMVETS, also known as American Veterans, has more than 250,000 members nationwide and membership is open to the nation’s 20 million veterans and their families. Keynote speaker was the newly confirmed secretary of veterans affairs, Robert Wilke. Also during the convention, the VA and AMVETS signed memorandum of agreement to further their efforts to eliminate risk factors that contribute to suicide among veterans and to establish programs and practices for at-risk veterans.
