Brown to Address Drug Addiction Monday in Warren
WARREN, Ohio – U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown will discuss efforts to fight drug addiction here Monday.
Brown, D-Ohio, who will speak at Compass Family and Community Services, will discuss new legislation that aims to comprehensively address the opioid addiction crisis from addiction to recovery.
In the Mahoning Valley, there were 115 deaths from unintentional drug overdoses in 2014. In Ohio, drug overdose deaths increased from 2,110 in 2013 to 2,482 in 2014, according to the senator’s office.
Brown will be joined by a Trumbull County mother whose son is managing his addiction with the help of medication-assisted treatment. Joe Caruso, president and CEO of Compass, will also discuss how Brown’s legislation will help their organizations better serve the residents and communities in the Mahoning Valley.
Provisions of Brown’s proposed legislation include boosting prevention, improving tools for crisis response for those who fall though the cracks, expanding access to treatment, and support for lifelong recovery.
