Burgan Reflects on Mahoning Valley’s Resilience
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – John Burgan of Burgan Real Estate saw many businesses shutter and industries suffer because of economic downturns during the more than 50 years he’s been in business.
“But we’ve always bounced back,” Burgan says. In the early 1980s, about 30% of Burgan’s business was land contracts.
That was after the steel mills closed and people struggled to pay their bills. Land contracts are a rarity 40 years later. “I haven’t had a land contract for 20 years now,” he says.
