Cafaro Co. Sets May 31 Opening for New Niles HQ

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Cafaro Co. will move May 31 into its new headquarters at the Eastwood Mall Complex in Niles, company co-president Anthony Cafaro Jr. said Tuesday.

“We are set to make the move right over the Memorial Day weekend and should be open for business in the new headquarters on May 31” at what Cafaro referred to as the company’s “flagship property.”

The Youngstown-based shopping center developer announced in October 2014 that it planned to build a 50,000-square-foot headquarters adjacent to the main Eastwood Mall building.

The announcement, made at the Eastwood Mall, was notable for former Cafaro executive Anthony Cafaro Sr.’s comments regarding the planned move to “an area where we have many friends, true friends, sincere friends, friends who know what we stand for, friends who appreciate us.”

Cafaro’s relationship with Mahoning County officials soured when county commissioners purchased the former South Side Medical Center and decided to relocate the county Department of Job and Family Services from the Cafaro-owned McGuffey Mall, the issue at the center of the recent Oakhill Renaissance Place corruption trial.

Founded in 1949, the company’s headquarters building on Belmont Avenue in Youngstown was built in 1965. A total of 175 employees will move to the new headquarters.

“We’re excited to be able to join all that’s going on at the Eastwood Mall Complex, not only just the shopping and dining but also now the hotel option. The Hampton Inn and Suites will be opening later in the fall to join the Residence Inn, which has been the top performing hotel in the Mahoning Valley for the past year and a half since it’s been open,” he said.

“It also offers additional amenities to our employees and serves as an opportunity to attract and retain the best quality work force,” he added.

The Belmont Avenue building is being marketed “but we don’t have anything firm yet,” he said.
