Car Sales Rise in the Mahoning Valley
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Car sales in the Mahoning Valley rose last month, once again going against national trends, as 5,300 new and used cars, trucks and SUVs were sold in June, data from the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association show, up 13.5% from a year ago.
“The consumers of northern Ohio continue to push our market with the purchase of trucks and SUVs. Unfortunately, this shift in preference comes at the cost of passenger car sales,” said Louis A. Vitantonio, president, in a release. “There are some big sedan introductions coming this fall, which could improve car sales. All in all, we continue to have positive year over year increases for our market.”
New car sales totaled 2,993 in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties, while 2,246 used cars were sold in the area, increases of 12.1% and 15.4%, respectively.
Leading sales of new vehicles in the area was Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, with 199 delivered to customers, up from 177 a year ago. Following were Greenwood Chevrolet, Austintown, with 194; Stadium GM Superstore, Salem, 153; Sweeney Buick GMC, Boardman, 141; and Taylor Kia, Boardman, 117. Topping used car sales was Greenwood Chevrolet with 127.
Among the dealerships Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers’ Association represents across northern Ohio, those in the Mahoning Valley held five of the top 10 spots on the sales chart.
