Castlo Gets $91,440 Grant to Renovate Industrial Park Rail Bridge

STRUTHERS, Ohio – The Ohio Rail Development Commission has awarded Castlo Community Improvement Corp. a grant up to $91,440 for renovating a railroad bridge in the Struthers industrial park.

The project will include repairing structural steel, repainting the bridge and making other improvements.

The bridge, part of the Mahoning Valley Railway, connects Castlo’s 120-acre industrial park to railways operated by both CSX and Norfolk Southern, one of the few such sites in Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, according to the Western Reserve Port Authority’s executive director, John Moliterno.

“The bridge improvements ensure the continued economic growth and business attraction within the region,” he said in a statement.

Added Matthew Dietrich, executive director of the Ohio Rail Development Commission: “This project supports economic development in the area by providing an existing Ohio company with rail access for transloading and helps to promote the industrial park as an attractive option for potential employers.”

The industrial park in downtown Struthers is a remediated brownfield site that’s now how to 10 companies with more than 100 employees combined.
